Venice can only be experienced as it is not possible to compare it to something else - there is nothing similar. One reason for the many boats is just to cross the Grand Canal as there are only 4 bridges along its 2.5 mile length. They also allow a view of much of the city that cannot be seen by foot. This image was rendered with a method of modern pictorialism.
